We were required to reinterpret the international brand standards and bring Ugg Australia (a global brand) to Australia for its first flagship store in Emporium Melbourne. The site for this project had a large shopfront that presented a unique opportunity to showcase and frame the interior of the store.
The intention for the exterior façade was to create a contrast with the interior by selecting bronze metal cladding to frame the bright and warm interior. The same bronze metal finish was used in the circular ceiling feature, creating a dialogue with the outside and creating a central focal point.
We reused existing brickwork in the building to add warmth – the expansive shopfront frames the warm interior with specialised lighting to support this.
It is important to us as designers that we respond to the specific site conditions, even with prescriptive design elements in order to give the store a unique solution and character.
