With its proprotionate japanese dna, it's no surprise that the land of the rising sun has been one of kitsuné's most fertile grounds, and ever since venturing into the retail arena it's been the brand's ardent objective to set up shop here.
Well, that milestone has just been achieved. we're talking a double retail statement with the opening of the maison kitsuné flagship store [1] and café kitsuné [2], both located in the swanky shopping neighbourhood of Aoyama.
Founders masaya kuroki and gildas loaëc teamed up with french architecture practice fhc to create retail spaces which subtly reference the original mothership in paris, but with a set of distinctly japanese materials blended in. spacious and luxe, the decorum features elements of the ambient folklore of traditional houses while specific sections of the flagship have been decorated with tailor-made coloured tatami.
Other local touches include unique touches the monogram on the japanese cedar parquet floor and the custom sliding doors, made from rice and bamboo. kitsuné café is located at a more secluded spot further down the road, and despite the deceptive name, it's very much a retail space as well.

The setting here is decidely more intimate with antique furnishings providing an eclectic contrast with the kitsuné's very contemporary offerings from kitsuné tee and parisien lines. And if you're done shopping, the baristas pour you a nice cup of coffee. location [1]: 3-15-3 minami-aoyama [aoyama]. location [2]: 3-17-1 minami-aoyama [aoyama].
