The 78th annual holiday window unveiling at Lord & Taylor's Fifth Avenue flagship store took place on Nov. 12. The theme of this year's window decorations, "A Few of Our Favorite Things," is depicted in scenes including "gingerbread kingdom," "holiday countdown," "cuckoo clock" and "sweets shop." Can you think of anything more festive than that?

According a news release from the store, 500,000 people walk by the 101-year-old building between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The release also explains how the windows come to be: built off site, they are then installed in the store's basement and elevated to street level using a hydraulic system created specifically for the displays. Lord & Taylor considers these windows a gift to New York City. Unwrap it with a sneak peek here.

A "holiday countdown" display holds a mansion with 24 windows meant to count down the days of December until Christmas. Each window of the house opens up to show an "iconic New York City holiday image," per the press release.

A sweet shop window display meant to depict a traditional Parisian bakery is a part of the "A Few of Our Favorite Things" scene.

The gingerbread kingdom window features a handmade Victorian gingerbread house. The structure is supported by multiple, strong gingerbread men.
