Hermès Zurich by Fabien Gerlier
Young Talent Revamps Window Designs
With a focus on retail design featuring prominently in Frame #98 – out next week – we took a look at a recent graduate transforming Hermès window displays in the heart of picturesque Zurich and soon Geneva.
The French fashion house collaborated with Students from ECAL’s Master of Advanced Studies in Design for Luxury and Craftsmanship programme to generate new store identities. Fabien Gerlier’s shadow-inspired contribution was selected.
Custom displays – composed of marble and metal – adorn five windows. Strategically placed projectors cast sporting scenes on featured garments as to suggest endless possibilities.
Shadows depict climbers scaling a mountain while dancers move across accessories. A third whimsical scene reveals sailors and boats. All three scenarios are composed using plates and spoons. With Gerlier recently out of school and creating new displays for Hermès, we are intrigued to see what he will come up with next.
